The Digital and Data Literacy in Teaching Lab (DDLitLab) project is an interdisciplinary, university-wide initiative at the University of Hamburg that will receive nearly €5 million in funding from the Foundation for Innovation in Higher Education (Stiftung Innovation der Hochschullehre) from August 2021 to December 2025. The aim is to systematically strengthen the teaching of digital and data-related skills to both students of all disciplines and teachers, and to provide new impetus for innovative teaching at the University of Hamburg.
The focus is on enabling students to use digital technologies in a reflective manner and to critically evaluate data-based processes. Teachers are supported in integrating digital and hybrid formats into their curricula in a didactically meaningful way. Key offerings include the interdisciplinary basic program Data Worlds, the Data Literacy Teaching Lab, Student Projects, and the gKI Community. The portfolio is complemented by the Teaching Navigator, which bundles training and consulting on digital and hybrid university teaching.
When the project concludes at the end of 2025, the materials and concepts developed will be available as a resource for the further development of digital and data-related university teaching at the University of Hamburg and beyond. The experiences of the DDLitLab should contribute in the long term to establishing and promoting data literacy as a key competence at the university.
